The Ashforth Company is committed to continuously assessing and improving our environmental performance. We believe our organization-wide environmental management approach is responsible business practice and will increase Ashforth’s value, value to our clients and aid in preserving the environment for future generations.

In May 1999, Ashforth’s west coast division, Ashforth Pacific, proudly launched its sustainability initiative, inspired by the firm belief that the business community must join in the search for solutions to our country’s pressing environmental concerns. Since then, The Ashforth Company and its divisions have continued to take the company on a path toward more sustainable business practices.

Ashforth Pacific’s sustainability initiative has won awards such as the City of Portland’s 2002 BEST Award for achievement in energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction and transportation alternatives. Lloyd Center Tower (pictured) won the 2001 Earth Award from the Building Owners and Managers Association (Local & Regional Category). In 2007, One Pacific Square placed second in the BOMA Portland Office Energy Showdown. And Liberty Centre is currently working toward earning LEED-EB certification, a rigorous, nationally recognized standard for environmentally-friendly building design, construction and operation. Ashforth Pacific’s initiative has also included its employees, who attend a sustainability training program, educating them to the importance of green practices.

A.P. Construction, Ashforth’s construction division, has completed numerous green construction projects and is working with owners to plan new green structures. Projects include the use of geothermal heat pump systems which can reduce energy costs up to 40% and were installed at SoundWaters’ headquarters in Stamford, CT, the Greenwich Audubon Center, and will be part of the Darien Library construction. Use of green construction materials such as cellulose insulation, carpets made from recycled materials, low-e glass with Lutron Daylighting systems, or lumber from sustainable forests were part of these projects as well as the Nokia headquarters (pictured) in Harrison, NY.

Albert B. Ashforth, Inc. – Management Services, Ashforth’s management division, has made great strides in reducing energy usage and increasing efficiency. Ashforth’s headquarters, 707 Summer Street (pictured), won the 2005 Earth Award from the Building Owners and Managers Association. Greenwich Plaza and Stamford Square have undergone retro-commissioning projects as part of an EPA pilot program. In 2007, 20% of the electric energy for Greenwich Plaza will be purchased from renewable energy sources. Ashforth promotes aggressive recycling, and requires the use of eco-friendly cleaning products in all of the properties it owns or manages.

In March 2006, Ashforth became an ENERGY STAR partner, committing to track our energy performance and reduce energy intensity. In the same month, Ashforth joined the New England Renewable Energy Purchasers Program, supporting the use of energy from renewable sources such as wind and solar. Ashforth has also been a member of the U.S. Green Building Council since 2007.
