Against
a rainy sky on the evening of September 30th, 2005, Downtown
Portland hosted The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light
The Night Walk. A parade of flickering red and white balloons
winded through downtown, creating a breathtaking sight and a
spirit of camaraderie among all who carried them. Walkers carried
illuminated balloons to celebrate and commemorate lives touched
by cancer. Each walker who raised over $100 received an official
Light the Night T-shirt and red illuminated balloon, while cancer
survivors carried white illuminated balloons.
As
a team, the Ashforth Pacific “Luminaries” had 9
members who raised $2,075. Ashforth Pacific is pleased to announce
that the top employee fundraisers will be presented with “Ashforth
Pacific’s Walker of the Year Award for Outstanding Community
Service and Commitment.” In appreciation, the two top fundraisers
will receive two additional personal days off during 2005. In
order to qualify, walkers must raise a minimum of $250 in contributions
from at least three different sources. Special thanks and appreciation
goes out to Ashforth’s team captain Deanna Premo, the entire
Ashforth team and this year’s top fundraisers: Wade
Lange who collected $620 and Judy
Hill who collected $380.
Participants
in Light The Night walks raise funds in support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society’s mission to cure leukemia,
lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve
the quality of life of patients and their families. More than
75 percent
of expenditures is directed toward research and patient services,
and the society has dedicated itself to being the top-rated
voluntary health agencies that directly funds its mission.
If
you have not had the chance to participate in The Light
The Night Walk and would like to participate next year, please
