The Ashforth Company announced that Mayor Dannel P. Malloy has appointed Robert Hartt, executive vice president of its Albert B. Ashforth, Inc. – Management Services division to the City of Stamford’s Energy Improvement District.

Hartt was recently appointed along with other board and commission appointees. In November 2007, the City of Stamford established an Energy Improvement District (EID) This district defines an area (principally the downtown central business district, the South End neighborhood and the industrial area along Magee Avenue) whereby property owners within this area may combine efforts to purchase and operate energy systems to provide electricity, heating and cooling. The effort is purely voluntary and will be governed by the EID.

The intent of an EID is to provide property owners with the means to create alternative energy systems including distributive generation, combined heat and power, and renewable energy systems and to do so in partnership with other properties in an effort to improve reliability and increase local electricity capacity, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and to manage costs.

“Ashforth owns or manages 2.6 million square feet of commercial office space in Fairfield County. There is reason to be concerned about the reliability of electric supply in Stamford and the continuing rise in cost.  The EID offers a solution to both of these problems.  Because the power supplied to the district is produced in the district using independent generation sources and waste heat, there are significant environmental benefits as well,” said Robert Hartt, executive vice president of Albert B. Ashforth, Inc. – Management Services.
