A.P. Construction Company, a division of The Ashforth
Company, was awarded and recently broke ground on the renovation
of the Hamden Memorial Town Hall and the new Police Department.
This new police headquarters facility will be adjacent to its
current location on Dixwell Avenue in Hamden, CT and attached
to the Memorial Town Hall.
The project will include a 50,000 square foot renovation of the
existing Memorial Town Hall and the construction of a new three-story,
37,000 square foot state-of-the-art police station. Hamden Memorial
Town Hall is listed on the national register of historic buildings
and also houses the existing fire station. The new building will
extend the streetscape of this historic building to the west,
while providing a defined new entrance for the police headquarters
that will hold a total of 75 employees once completed. In addition,
a two-level, 40,000 square foot parking garage will be added
along with road improvements to Route 10 State Highway.
The project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2011
and will be a LEED Silver certified building as defined by the
requirements of the USGBC (United States Green Building
Council).
Careful project phasing is planned to ensure smooth, uninterrupted
town operations. The existing police headquarters building will
remain in place until renovation of the town hall and construction
of the new police headquarters addition (including a new communication
system) are complete. After the Hamden Police Department moves
into its new headquarters, the existing police buildings will
be demolished. The last project phase will include construction
of the parking structure and final site work.
“This will be the third police station that A.P. Construction
has completed over the last several years and we’re delighted
to partner with the Town of Hamden to complete what will be a
secure, state-of-the-art and sustainable facility for its community,”
said Nicholas S. Everett, Senior Vice President of A.P. Construction
Company.
The architect is Bianco Giolitto Weston Architects, Frank Fazekas
is the Project Manager, Mark Moran is the Superintendent and
Jace Colaneri is the Assistant Project Manager.
A.P. Construction’s most recent LEED project was the 54,000 square
foot Darien Library, in Darien, CT, which was completed earlier
this year and attained a LEED Gold certification.
