First
multi-tenanted commercial property owner to implement
no smoking indoors and outdoors
UPDATE: Ashforth has received an Outstanding Organization Award by the Oregon Public Health Division of the State of Oregon for its new smoke-free policy.
Ashforth launched its new
smoke-free policy at its owned Lloyd District office buildings. Although
this policy has been implemented at multi-family residential,
medical locations, educational campuses and owner-occupied
buildings, Ashforth Pacific is the first multi-tenanted commercial
property owner in the Lloyd District to institute a smoke-free
environment both indoors and outdoors.
“While
it’s not required for private property, Ashforth Pacific
is proud to join this smoke-free effort and believes the benefits
to all our tenants and visitors far outweigh the inconvenience
it may cause. Our decision supports the long-term vision
of Ashforth as a leader in commercial real estate with a commitment
to sustainability and a civic responsibility to the community,” said
Wade Lange, vice president of property management of Ashforth
Pacific.
Lange said
the decision was largely based on tenant feedback and careful
consideration of positions both for and against a portfolio-wide
smoking ban.
Smoke-free
signage is installed and ashtrays and benches in previously
designated smoking areas have been removed. There will be no
designated areas where smoking is permitted at Ashforth Pacific’s
Lloyd District properties. Security personnel will request
compliance with the new policy.
“Ashforth’s
continuing goal is to create a safe, healthy workplace environment
at our all buildings. This is a simple and very basic measure
that will help protect those on Ashforth property from the
known health effects of secondhand smoke,” said Lisa
Donaldson, senior property manager for Ashforth Pacific.
Lloyd Center
Tower, Liberty Centre, Lloyd 700, and Oregon Square make up
Ashforth’s Lloyd District office portfolio totaling 1.1
million square feet of office space.
